Hi Ruth! Thank you so much for the wonderful photos of the Login and Cilymaenllwyd area. My ancestors are from that area. In fact most of the headstones on the right hand side of the graveyard at Cilymaenllwyd Old Parish Church are my family. You actually took a picture of the one headstone that belongs to my family at the Login Calfaria church. It is the arched one near the front door to the left. It's funny that I just got back from my trip to Wales from the States to take that very picture (and do family research, etc.) and then I come home and find it on the internet!
My family line is Morgan(s) - also Williams and Jinkins and Thomas and James from the area and probably others that I haven't found yet. My ggg grandparents used to live up the street from Felin Cwrt. I think one of my relatives lived at Felin Cwrt. Others at homes that no longer exist like Alltfach, Cwmbach, ....
I've traced mine partially back to George and Elizabeth Morgan of Plas y Barlo "Barlow Place". It was wonderful to be there and to see the area. I'm homesick to go back.
I saw that Felin Cwrt picture! My family's old homestead was just up the street "Alltfach". Tyrrel Griffeths and his sons took me out on the property. One of his sons owns the property and Tyrrel and his son Huw live right next to Felin Cwrt. These pictures are just fantastic! I'm really excited about this site. Tyrrel's son Huw was just given the "Salt of the Earth" award by the town of Login. They're a great family.
I'd be glad to have you add my comments to your blog site. The family that lives in and is caring for the Cilymaenllwyd Old Parish Church is another amazing family in the area.
There is a wonderful lady named Hellen who cares for the Calfaria Chapel area. She has a bit of fame herself as she will be coming to the States to do a demonstration on Willow Basket weaving at the Smithsonian institute here - in June I believe.
I got a copy of the booklet about the Calfaria chapel you mentioned. As you said, it is all in Welsh. There was a blurb about my GG Uncle Morris (Maurice) Morgan in there which I had translated into English for me. That was pretty fun.
Keep up the good work Ruth. I love those pictures! I wish I could have lived in Login with you back then. I love the area. It was like going home.
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing these pictures with us!

Re photos of Felin Cwrt, Cilymaenllwyd parish...I was wondering if you recall a
mill there? I have a letter written about 1912 by a John family descendant in Rochester, New York, describing Felin Cwrt as the family home - as early as 1830
and as late as 1902. During her visit to Felin Cwrt in 1902 she describes the land as owned by another descendant, Nancy James, who was a wealthy sheep farmer, owning the house and woolen mill. Her uncle - my ancestor - left Felin Cwrt for the US in 1836 and some of his children settled in Canada - where I live.
Thanks for the photo and for any info you can provide!

Hello Anonymous... I feel bad that I am only responding now, 11 years after this post. I either didn't see it at the time or didn't have any information about the place. I can at least tell you now that Felin Cwrt is also called Court Mill. So indeed there was a mill there. I may have responded to you on another site. I hope so. If your family lived there in the 1830s and on, our families would definitely have known each other.
